Financial Reporting
and Database Analyst

This position is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reporting actual results, preparing forecasts and budgets, and working with the Information Technology (IT) Department to ensure system requirements of the Finance Department are adequately communicated and prioritized. 

Additionally, the Financial Reporting and Database Analyst will monitor and ensure compliance with state statutory reporting requirements, recommend improvements to reporting capabilities, and assist with integrating financial data across ATG and its subsidiaries.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepares GAAP and STAT financials and periodic state regulatory reporting including adjusting entries, all schedules related to Assets, Liabilities, Statement of Operations, Cash Flows, Underwriting Exhibits, Schedule P, Schedule F, and Investment Exhibits.
  • Reports and analyzes consolidated financial results against budgets and forecasts including, but not limited to, monthly rolling forecasts, cost/profit analysis, department, member and location profitability analysis, etc.
  • Participates in preparing budgets and forecasts, driving effective analysis to actuals, and providing variance explanations. Develops and prepares metrics, expense analysis, key process indicators, and provides trend and data analysis to inform, corroborate, and assess reasonableness and significance of financial assumptions.
  • Evaluates current systems and system interfaces to identify system control reports needed to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of transactions.
  • Monitors and complies with state reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates with IT team to execute projects, define requirements, and make recommendations to ensure seamless workflow and consistency in reporting.
  • Makes recommendations to improve reporting capabilities by determining where data resides; provides subject matter expertise on database and Power BI best practices.
  • Aligns technical and business views of the system by ensuring technical solutions being developed will satisfy the needs of the business.
  • Works with the IT team on new system implementations, migrations, reporting, and controls to ensure business needs are met.
  • Works with IT team to develop and implement new reporting in the various tools used by the organization, including the data warehouse and Power BI.

Qualifications and Position Requirements

  • Experience with Financial Reporting and Analysis.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with ERP and computerized accounting systems.
  • Ability to apply GAAP and STAT principles.
  • Advanced data modeling and Excel skills.
  • Experience in data/business analytics, creating dashboards, and connecting to a wide variety of data sources, including cloud-based databases.
  • Experience with financial modeling/analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with other departments.
  • Experience with month-end close.
  • Experience with data implementations, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Experience documenting controls and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 6+ years of increasingly responsible account GAAP and STAT experience required.
  • 3+ years of database analysis experience required.
  • Report writing experience required.
  • Budget preparation experience for multiple departments required.
  • CPA or CMA with Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and SAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of SDLC or other methodology a plus.
  • Experience with statutory reporting and State filings a plus.
  • External or Internal Audit experience a plus.
